THE WEEKEND

DRESS ATTIRE

In general the high desert this time of year is on average a high of 90 degrees during the day but can drop as low as 55 degrees at night, so please pack appropriately. 90 out here is hot, but it's also a dry heat. Footwear is super important around these parts so bring shoes that are comfortable and in line with whatever you plan to do. Ladies, trust me when I say I understand that shoes can make or break an outfit, but spiked heels anywhere out here will be your worst nightmare, don't even bring them. Dress your best for the big day, but keep in mind a cute ankle boot will be a better friend to you.

VOLUME UP

THURSDAY NIGHT WELCOME SHINDIG

SEPTEMBER 2, 2021

Please join us Thursday night from 7:30-10:30 to welcome to you to the desert in style, Kanab style. Moqui Cave has some crazy cool history. The late Garth and Laura Chamberlain purchased the cave in 1951 and turned it into Southern Utahs first dance hall and bar! During the week you could pony up to the bar and rub elbows with John Wayne (and any number of other stars in Utah filming westerns), and on weekends bands would play. A museum was always in their sights though, as Garth studied Geology, Archaeology, and Paleontology. The exhibits on display are his personal findings after years of studies and collecting. They include more than 1,000 arrowheads, ceremonial points, jugs, pots, bowls and working tools from the Puebloan Era. There is a sizeable collection of dinosaur tracks and fossils (and fossilized dinosaur poop!), most of which were found in the surrounding area. Their fluorescent mineral displays are one of the largest in the U.S. There's also a gift/rock shop with Native American arts and crafts, rugs, pottery, and turquoise. The rock shop has a wide variety of fossils, rocks, and minerals found locally and throughout the world.

And while you're here...Moqui Caverns, not to be confused with Moqui Cave, is a sandstone cavern located just south of Moqui Cave along highway 89. This natural formation is free for all to enjoy, it is not part of the museum. The caverns are situated at the top of a cliff, if you try to climb up the rocks directly under the entrance you'll have a tough time. Instead, follow the faint social trail off to the left of the cavern entrance and work your way up. Once you get to the top of the cliff, you can follow a wide edge over to the caverns. Once you're inside you'll find a surprisingly wide open space, not at all claustrophobic! We've seen people of all ages tackle this short and easy scramble up the rocks! On average it takes about 15 minutes to get up to the top.

Drinks are on us but bring your wallets, there will be a food truck open until 9pm and the gift shop will be open for you to shop if you like! This is a casual event so please come at any point from 730-10:30 and stay for as little or as long as you like!

Please RSVP if you plan to attend

Moqui Cave is located at 4581 US-89, there is plenty of parking for all!

SUNDAY ON LAKE POWELL
SEPTEMBER 5, 2021

Don't party too late on Saturday night, Sunday morning is lake day!! Splashing in the pristine waters of Lake Powell has always been an integral part of our time here and we cannot imagine a better way to wrap up the weekend. Please be prepared to drive yourself to the lake at 11am  (Lake Powell is Arizona which is one hour away but one hour behind Utah time).  At 11am Jason and Neanna will meet everyone at the parking lot to the scramble down and guide everyone down for a day of swimming, spritzes, laughing, lunching, napping, and revelry. Getting down to the water requires the ability to hike down sandstone for about 20 minutes so please come prepared and only bring what you can carry. Bring a soft cooler, sunscreen, a beach towel, and whatever else you require/desire for a day of lounging on the sandstone and swimming in the water. Maps will be provided. Please be advised that there is no shade.

We've rented two double decker party pontoons that we'll be anchoring off shore. Each boat holds about 15-20 ppl at a time and is equipped with a grill, a bathroom, a water slide, shade, etc. These will serve as floating hang out zones just off the coastline (we won't be cruising around the lake on them). We'll be bringing floats, a few shade tents, and whatever food and drinks we have left from the weekend, if any. So BYO to be safe!

IF YOU WANT TO EXPLORE THE LAKE you'll need to rent a boat from Antelope Point Marina, and If you do rent a boat we'll give you a map of how to find us from the marina. It takes about 20 minutes from the marina to boat over to where we'll be.

(Helpful attire hit: flip flops will make you feel you've never regretted a poor decision more, we recommend wearing shoes that won't slip off)

Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
